Coaching for life’s curveballs

Shirley-Moana Duff, zoom session, psychOH, coaching psychology

Life doesn’t always unfold neatly. Sometimes you’re navigating a big transition — a relationship ending, a career or role shift, a change in identity — and sometimes it’s quieter than that, just a sense that something needs to shift.

Coaching gives you a space to pause, breathe, and actually hear yourself think. A space to get clear on what’s happening beneath the surface, and what needs to happen next.

the experience

  • We talk. You think out loud. I ask questions that help you see things more clearly. Together we make sense of what’s going on and what might happen next. It’s structured, but not stiff.

  • No. Many people come in with nothing but a vague sense of “something’s off.” That’s enough. Part of my job is helping you figure out what the real question is.

  • No. Therapy looks back to heal; coaching looks forward to help you move. We might touch on feelings, patterns, or past experiences, but the focus is on clarity, decisions, and practical next steps.

  • All normal. Humans do human things. You don’t need to perform or be polished — you just need to show up as you are.

  • My approach is solutions-focused and evidence-informed. In simple terms, we focus on what actually moves the needle for you—using psychological and behaviour change techniques, not guesswork.

I bring a practical, real-world lens to the process, so you’re not just talking things through—you’re making progress from where you are now to where you want to be.

  • No. I’ll help you think clearly enough that the decision becomes obvious — to you. You stay in the driver’s seat; I help you see the road.

  • No prep required. Bring a question, a situation, a feeling, or a messy brain. We’ll sort through it together.

  • Most people who say this end up loving it. Coaching isn’t about being a certain type of person — it’s about having a space where you can think without noise, pressure, or judgement.

  • It depends on your situation. Some people get what they need in one session; others prefer ongoing support. There’s no lock‑in, no packages, no pressure.

  • Mostly yes. There are a couple of exceptions, such as if you’re in danger of hurting yourself or someone else. Otherwise, coaching is a private, respectful space where what you share stays in the room.

  • No. I’m not a psychologist. I’m a coach with a Masters degree in Coaching Psychology and training in evidence‑based coaching approaches. My work focuses on clarity, decision‑making, behaviour change, and helping you move forward — not diagnosis or clinical treatment.
